How to Plan an Affordable Savannah Girls Trip: Real Rates, the Best-Value Months, and the Search Trick That Finds the Big Houses

Most Savannah girls trip budgets are decided in the first ten minutes of planning, long before anyone opens a restaurant menu. Two choices move the number more than everything else combined: when you go, and what you book. Savannah is one of the few destinations where both levers are genuinely open, because lodging demand here swings close to three-to-one across the calendar and the best group houses are priced by the house rather than by the head.

I have been hosting guests in this market since 2004. Below are the actual rates, the months where your dollar stretches furthest, and a search method that most groups planning a Savannah girls trip never find on their own.

Key takeaways

  • Savannah’s lodging demand runs roughly three times higher in its busiest month than in its quietest, so the same house can price very differently depending on the week you choose.
  • Booking platforms filter by guest count, not bedroom count. Search at double your bedroom target to surface the large homes, then drop the headcount before you price it.
  • Per person, a three- to six-bedroom house lands around $41 to $58 per night before taxes — well under the per-head cost of stacking hotel rooms.
  • January, February, September, and early December are the value windows. March is the most expensive month on the calendar.
  • Budget for 4% Georgia sales tax, 8% City of Savannah excise tax, and a $5-per-night state fee on top of the nightly rate.

Start Your Savannah Girls Trip Search With One Trick: Multiply Bedrooms by Two

Nearly every booking platform filters by guest count, not by bedroom count. Enter eight guests and you will get a long list of two-bedroom units with a sofa bed in the living room. Technically accurate. Not what you asked for.

The workaround is arithmetic. Take the number of bedrooms you actually want and double it. Want four bedrooms? Search for eight guests. Want eight bedrooms? Search for sixteen. The filter is built on the assumption that a bedroom holds two people, so doubling your bedroom target pushes results toward homes that genuinely have that many rooms.

You are not committing to bringing sixteen people. You are using the guest field as a proxy for bedroom count. Once the larger homes are on your screen, drop the headcount back to your real number before you request a quote — some listings add a per-guest charge above a threshold, and there is no reason to pay for eight women who are not coming.

The guest filter is a proxy for bedroom count. Double your bedroom target to find the house, then drop the headcount to price it.

This matters more in Savannah than in most destinations, and the supply numbers explain why. Of roughly 1,727 active Savannah listings tracked by Rabbu as of April 2026, one-bedrooms account for 591 and two-bedrooms for another 482. Five-bedroom and six-plus-bedroom homes together account for about 112. The large houses are here, and they book well — six-plus-bedroom properties carry the highest occupancy in the market at 44%, which tells you group travel demand is real. They are simply a thin slice of what a default search will show you. We wrote separately about large luxury vacation rentals in Savannah for groups if you want to see what that end of the market looks like.

What a Savannah Girls Trip House Actually Costs Per Person

Here is the market-wide average nightly rate by home size in Savannah, using Rabbu’s trailing-twelve-month data as of April 2026, with the per-person math at two guests per bedroom:

Home sizeAverage nightly ratePer person (2 per bedroom)
1 bedroom$141$71
2 bedrooms$182$46
3 bedrooms$243$41
4 bedrooms$371$46
5 bedrooms$470$47
6+ bedrooms$691$58 (at 12 guests)
Average nightly rate by home size in Savannah, with per-person cost at two guests per bedroom.

Two things to read carefully here. First, these are trailing-twelve-month averages that blend peak and quiet months together, so a January booking will typically land below the table and a March booking above it. Second, the per-person number barely moves once you get past two bedrooms. Whether your group takes a three-bedroom or a six-bedroom, you are looking at roughly $41 to $58 per person per night before taxes. Size the house to the number of real beds you need, not to a price target.

The data providers disagree, and that is useful to know

The two largest short-term rental data firms do not agree on Savannah’s average nightly rate. Rabbu puts the market at $219. AirDNA puts it at $296. Neither is wrong — they track different listing sets and weight them differently. The practical takeaway is that no market average tells you what a specific house on specific dates will cost. Use these figures to set expectations, then price the actual weekend.

Compared with booking hotel rooms

Run the same group through the hotel math. Eight women in four hotel rooms is a fair comparison. Recent listed nightly rates in and around the Historic District have included Hotel Indigo Savannah Historic District around $139, the Hyatt Regency Savannah around $161, and The DeSoto around $186, before taxes and fees. Four rooms at $161 is $644 a night for the group, or roughly $80 per person — against about $46 per person in a four-bedroom house. Those listed rates move with the calendar, so check your own dates, but the shape of the comparison holds.

The house also gives you a kitchen, a living room where everyone can actually sit together, and laundry. For a group that plans to cook one or two meals rather than eat out for every one, that gap widens.

The taxes and fees nobody quotes you up front

Georgia charges 4% state sales tax on short-term rentals. The City of Savannah adds an 8% hotel/motel excise tax, which has applied at that rate since September 1, 2023 and covers short-term rentals as well as hotels. Georgia also charges a $5-per-night state hotel-motel fee on stays of 30 nights or fewer, which has applied to short-term rentals since a 2021 change in state law.

That last one quietly favors the whole-home option. The $5 fee attaches to each accommodation rented, per night. One house is $5 a night. Four hotel rooms is $20 a night. Across a four-night stay, that single line is a $60 difference.

Add the cleaning fee, then divide by heads. The nightly rate on the listing page is not the number your group is splitting, and any operator worth booking with will show you the full figure before you commit.

The Best Months for an Affordable Savannah Girls Trip

Savannah’s demand curve is consistent and easy to plan around. Using Rabbu’s average monthly revenue per listing as a demand proxy — higher revenue means more competition for the same house — the calendar sorts itself cleanly:

MonthAvg. monthly revenue per listingDemand tier
January$1,543Quietest
December$2,187Quiet
February$2,249Quiet
November$2,368Quiet
September$2,570Quiet
October$2,853Moderate
August$3,126Moderate
May$3,729Busy
April$3,998Busy
June$4,050Busy
July$4,198Busiest
March$4,560Busiest
Savannah lodging demand by month, using average monthly revenue per listing as a proxy.

March is Savannah at its most celebratory, and the numbers reflect it. The St. Patrick’s Day parade lands on the 17th every year regardless of the day of the week, and it is one of the largest in the country. The Savannah Music Festival follows, running April 2 through April 17 in 2027. If either is the reason your group is coming, that is a completely different trip and worth planning around — book six to twelve months out and expect peak pricing. If the budget is the priority, the same house in September is a different conversation entirely.

Pick the window before you pick the house. The calendar is the biggest single lever on what this trip costs.

Four Value Windows Worth Building a Savannah Girls Trip Around

Mid-January

January is the quietest lodging month of the year, which means the widest selection of large homes at the lowest rates you will see. The squares, Forsyth Park, Bonaventure Cemetery, and the whole Historic District are fully open and unhurried. This is the window for a group that wants long walks, long dinners, and no competition for a table.

February

February pairs soft rates with an unusual amount of free programming. The Savannah Book Festival is one of the largest free literary festivals in the country. Super Museum Sunday, scheduled for February 14, 2027, opens museums across the city at no charge. The Savannah Black Heritage Festival runs for much of the month, and the Savannah Irish Festival returns in February 2027. For a group that wants a full itinerary without a full ticket budget, this is the strongest month on the calendar.

Mid-to-late September

The Savannah Jazz Festival’s 45th edition runs September 18 through 20, 2026 at Forsyth Park, with 15 free performances and organizers expecting more than 50,000 attendees across the weekend. The Forsyth Farmers’ Market runs every Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. September is the third-quietest lodging month of the year, so this is the best overlap of free marquee programming and soft rates anywhere on the calendar.

Early December

Before the holiday weeks arrive, December rates sit near the bottom of the annual range while the Historic District is fully decorated. A strong choice for a group that wants the city at its most photogenic without peak-season pricing.

The Free Savannah Most Girls Trips Underuse

Savannah’s best asset is walkable and costs nothing. Twenty-two squares, Forsyth Park and its fountain, the riverfront, the Starland District, and Bonaventure Cemetery are all free to visit and all within a comfortable radius of a Historic District rental. Our free self-guided Savannah squares walking tour maps a route your group can do in an afternoon. The Forsyth Farmers’ Market runs Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The SCAD Sidewalk Arts Festival in April and the SCAD Sand Arts Festival on Tybee Island in May are both free to attend. Tybee’s beach is free to access; budget for parking.

If the group has dietary requirements, our guide to vegan and gluten-free restaurants in Savannah saves the usual round of group-chat negotiation before dinner.

One practical note that saves real money: roughly 87% of Savannah short-term rental listings include parking. If your group is driving in, filtering for on-site parking removes a daily garage charge from the trip budget entirely. That is a meaningful line item over four nights, and it is easy to filter for.

How to Read a Listing So the House Actually Fits Your Group

  • Count bedrooms and real beds, not the “sleeps” number. A listing that says it sleeps 14 is often counting sofa beds and a daybed. If everyone in your group expects a real bed behind a door that closes, bedroom count is the only number that matters — which is exactly why the doubling trick above works.
  • Check the bathroom-to-bedroom ratio. For eight women getting ready for the same dinner reservation, bathrooms matter more than square footage. Two bathrooms across four bedrooms will feel different than three.
  • Ask for the short-term vacation rental certificate number. Savannah requires registration for short-term rentals, and eligibility is address-specific rather than neighborhood-wide. A legitimate operator will give you the number without hesitation. This is the single best protection against a booking that gets cancelled weeks before your trip.
  • Read the cancellation policy as a budget line. Across the Savannah market, roughly 43% of listings use a moderate policy, 26.5% strict, 13.6% super strict, and 16.9% flexible. In a group of eight, somebody’s plans will change. Know the terms before you collect money from anyone.
  • Confirm parking specifically, and confirm how many vehicles. 87% is high, but it is not universal, and a driveway that fits one car is a different answer than a lot that fits three.

Location is the other half of the question. If nobody wants to drive once you arrive, City Market puts most of the weekend within walking distance of the front door.

What Experienced Group Travelers Do

  1. Pick the window before the house. Choose from January, February, September, or early December first, then shop. Reversing this order is what makes trips expensive.
  2. Search at double your bedroom count. Four bedrooms means an eight-guest search; eight bedrooms means a sixteen-guest search.
  3. Drop the headcount before you quote. Once you have found the house, re-price it at your actual number of travelers.
  4. Price the whole cost, not the nightly rate. Nightly rate times nights, plus 12% in combined state and city tax, plus $5 per night, plus the cleaning fee. Then divide by heads.
  5. Compare against the hotel-room stack honestly. Multiply a Historic District room rate by the number of rooms you would actually need, not by one.
  6. Verify the short-term vacation rental certificate before anyone sends money.
  7. Book direct where you can. Reserving through a manager’s own site rather than a listing platform removes the guest service fee from the total, which on a group booking is not a small number.
  8. Collect from the group at booking, not at checkout. Whoever’s name is on the reservation is carrying the cancellation exposure for everyone.

Savannah Girls Trip FAQ

What is the most affordable time of year for a Savannah girls trip?

January is the quietest lodging month in Savannah, followed by December, February, November, and September. Rabbu’s data shows the average listing earning $1,543 in January against $4,560 in March, which is close to a three-to-one spread in demand. For a group that can travel flexibly, mid-January and February deliver the lowest rates, while mid-to-late September pairs soft pricing with the free Savannah Jazz Festival at Forsyth Park.

How do I find a large house in Savannah for a big group?

Set the guest filter to roughly twice the number of bedrooms you want. Booking platforms filter by guest count rather than bedroom count, so searching for eight guests returns two-bedroom units with sofa beds. Searching for sixteen guests surfaces homes with eight real bedrooms. Once you have found the property, lower the headcount to your actual group size before requesting a quote.

Is a vacation rental cheaper than hotel rooms for a girls trip in Savannah?

For groups of six or more, usually yes. A four-bedroom Savannah rental averages $371 per night, which is about $46 per person at eight guests. Four Historic District hotel rooms at recent listed rates near $161 each would run roughly $644 per night, or about $80 per person. The rental also includes a kitchen and shared living space, which reduces dining costs further.

What taxes and fees are added to a Savannah vacation rental?

Expect 4% Georgia state sales tax, an 8% City of Savannah hotel/motel excise tax that has applied since September 1, 2023, and a $5-per-night Georgia state hotel-motel fee on stays of 30 nights or fewer. A cleaning fee is typically separate. The $5 state fee is charged per accommodation rather than per guest, so a single house incurs it once per night while multiple hotel rooms incur it for each room.

How far in advance should we book a Savannah girls trip?

For March, including St. Patrick’s Day, and for the Savannah Music Festival window, book six to twelve months out. For the value windows in January, February, September, and early December, sixty to ninety days is usually sufficient. Larger homes are the exception in any month, since five-bedroom and six-plus-bedroom properties represent only about 112 of the market’s roughly 1,727 listings.

Do Savannah vacation rentals include parking?

About 87% of Savannah short-term rental listings include parking, which is one of the highest amenity rates in the market. Confirm the number of vehicles the space accommodates, since a single driveway spot and a private lot are very different answers for a group arriving in three cars.

What can a group do in Savannah for free?

The twenty-two historic squares, Forsyth Park, the riverfront, the Starland District, and Bonaventure Cemetery are all free to visit. The Forsyth Farmers’ Market runs Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Savannah Jazz Festival in September and the Savannah Book Festival in February both offer free programming, as do the SCAD Sidewalk Arts Festival in April and the SCAD Sand Arts Festival on Tybee Island in May.

Planning Your Savannah Girls Trip Dates

Savannah rewards the group that plans the calendar first. Choose a quiet month, find a house with enough real bedrooms that nobody is on a sofa, and price the whole number rather than the nightly rate. Do those three things and a long weekend here lands well below what most groups assume it costs — with more room, more privacy, and a kitchen you will actually use.

If you want to see what is available on your dates, our direct booking portal is at vacationrentalsavannahga.com. You will see the full cost including taxes and fees before you commit, and booking direct removes the platform service fee from the total. If you are weighing two or three different weekends and want a straight answer on which one prices better, get in touch and we will tell you what the calendar actually looks like.
